Travel Insurance
Cambodia is not a dangerous country, but when doing any adventure travel, it is always important to be prepared. Before your trip, please check if your medical insurance covers you for foreign travel, particularly medical evacuation. If not, be sure to obtain additional travel insurance that includes coverage for medical evacuation, as this is a requirement for all participants on any PEPY Tour. You are free to choose any insurance provider you like but if you are looking for a suggestion we recommend World Nomads. They are a global insurance provider offering comprehensive travel insurance coverage worldwide and they also have an amazing Corporate Social Responsibility arm. Check out their Khmer language tutorial, and their Footprints program. We think it is important to make responsible choices across the board, from how we travel to our travel insurance, and for us, World Nomads is top of the list because of the great work they choose to support. When purchasing insurance make sure to note the following:
- Claims process: Many insurance providers will require you to call before you seek medical attention or they will not reimburse you later.
- Activities for which you are covered and the policy’s other limitations: World Nomads covers a wide range of activities but many other insurance providers have a range of limitations so be sure to check if activities you plan on doing are covered! In particular, if you are cycling as part of your tour, or are going scuba diving, make sure to read the policy to see that you are covered.
- Emergency evacuation coverage: This is required to participate in a PEPY Tour. It is suggested that the amount covered under this clause be at least $10,000.
- Pre-existing conditions: Check what the insurance company’s policy is with regards to their definition of pre-existing conditions, especially if you have any.
- Discounts: If you are traveling with a partner check to see if you can get a discount if you sign up together.
Safe travels!
